Access, custom environments and attention to detail.
Every F-150 Regular Cab offers rear access doors – a
first-in-class* in the full-size pickup truck segment – to make
grabbing your tools or your clubs that much easier. An available
first-in-class* Overhead Storage System, allows you to customize your
truck for your needs with storage bins, optional audio visual equipment
and other gear you deem essential.
Designers adopted a modular approach for the F-150 instrument panel
to help create distinct levels differentiation between series. The
modular approach allowed flexibility in colors, materials selection and
textures. Three distinct instrument cluster designs combine with other
elements to help give each series a different look and feel. For
example, the FX4 cluster gauges are aircraft inspired while the Lariat
gauges are chrome ringed to match other chrome interior elements.
The new interiors are six inches longer in Regular Cabs and SuperCabs
than the current models and are ergonomically designed in all cab
styles. The quietness within the cabin also adds to the overall quality
of the interior experience.
Why is this important?
No matter why you purchase an F-150, for work or personal use, your
truck is a tool that you use to help get the job done – no matter what
that job is. The improvements incorporated into the interiors of the new
F-150 will help you achieve that goal, while riding in greater comfort
and style.
What does this mean to you?
Getting into and out of the new F-150 will be easier – front or back
seat, driver or passenger. Once inside you will have more room and more
comfort. Controls are designed to be easy to operate. And you’ll find
these things regardless of the cab style or the trim level.

Available Overhead Storage System accepts
a variety of snap-in modules.

Attribute Details
Rear Access Doors
Regular Cab models now feature class-exclusive access doors to allow
greater accessibility to a behind seat stowage area that’s up to 16
inches deep. Big enough for tool boxes, golf clubs or five gallon
buckets.
Available Overhead Storage System – First-in-Class.*
The first-in-class available Overhead Storage System adds a new
dimension of versatility to the interior of the F-150. The advanced
design allows you to snap in different modules for different uses,
including an optional DVD entertainment system with rear seat audio
controls. The Overhead Storage System is standard on SuperCab and
SuperCrew XLT, FX4, and Lariat models when the optional moonroof is not
selected.
Longer Cabs
Both Regular Cab and SuperCab models have a passenger compartment that
is six inches longer than the current model. That means more space for
occupants and gear. In SuperCab that translates into more rear seat
comfort for three adults with a more comfortable angle to the rear seat
back. In Regular Cab models it means up to 13 inches of secure stowage
space behind the seat.
Ergonomically Designed
Because people come in all shapes and sizes, the new F-150 is designed
to accommodate you, whether you’re 4’-10” or 6’-4”. A few
examples:
* Door armrests extend forward and back along the door panel to suit
a variety of drivers and driving positions.
* Exterior door handles are large with an intuitive pull-grip.
* The rear doors of SuperCab models can now be opened with a single,
double –acting handle, replacing the current inner and outer handles.
The single handle can be easily reached and operated from inside or
outside the cab.
* Available running boards are positioned lower and further outboard to
aid entry and exit.
Modular Approach
Each instrument panel is designed with bold vertical bands that offered
designers the flexibility needed to better differentiate trim levels.
FX4 uses warm steel and carbon mesh accents while the Lariat features
finely crafted stitched surfaces and woodgrain accents.

Read why-
 DEARBORN,
Mich. - Ford today announced it will introduce an all-new
powertrain.
The all-new 6.0-liter V-8 diesel engine and a heavy-duty 5-speed automatic
transmission will make their debut beginning in early 2003 for its F-Series
Super Duty pickup and Ford Excursion sport-utility vehicle.
The new 6.0-liter Power Stroke® Diesel and new 5-speed TorqShift® automatic
transmission will combine to produce 325 horsepower at 3,300 rpm and 550
foot-pounds of torque at 2,000 rpm.
"Truck customers are demanding more power, better NVH and increased fuel
economy," said Dave Szczupak, vice president, Powertrain Operations, Ford
Motor Company.
Richard Fotsch, president of International Engine Group, an operating company of
Navistar International Corporation and manufacturer of the new Power Stroke
Diesel added: "This is a real step forward in diesel technology for our
truck customers. We continue to improve performance while at the same time
improving fuel economy and meeting clean-air goals."
6.0-Liter Power Stroke Diesel: 32-valve V-8 diesel
The new 6.0-liter Power Stroke V-8 engine is a direct injection, 32-valve diesel
with an all-new cast-iron block and cylinder heads. The engine employs a single,
block-mounted camshaft in a compact over-head valve (OHV) design, with
hydraulic-valve lash adjustment. This proven configuration provides a
low-friction and durable valvetrain system and is ideal for engines with a
normal operating range of less than 4,000 rpm.
First shown in concept form at the North American International Auto Show in
January, as the engine powering Ford’s Mighty F-350 Concept Truck, the new
6.0-liter Power Stroke Diesel incorporates a number of diesel engine
innovations, including:
 | Electronic Variable Response Turbocharging (EVRT™): A system that
helps ensure exceptional turbo boost over a wide range of engine revolutions for
impressive grade climbing capability, high-altitude performance and towing
capability. EVRT employs a set of vanes that automatically adjust to optimize
the airflow within the turbo.
 | Tow-Haul Mode: The new powertrain features a "tow-haul
mode" that, once activated, can help increase a driver’s feeling of
control when towing large loads up and down steep grades and automatically
minimizes shifts and maximizes available torque. Upon descent, the tow-haul mode
utilizes engine braking to help extend brake-life and improve driver control.
 | Hydraulic Rail Fuel Injection: Fuel injectors are actuated by a
high-pressure hydraulic rail system that generates injection pressures up to
26,000 psi. The high-pressure fuel is quickly atomized as it is released into
the combustion chamber, generating a cleaner and efficient combustion event.
 | Pilot Injection: By delivering small quantities of fuel into the
combustion chamber prior to the main injection event, the combustion process is
both smoother and quieter.
 | Exhaust-Gas Recirculation (EGR): Cooled exhaust gases are
re-circulated back into the combustion chamber, lowering the burning temperature
of the combustion event and, as a result, reducing oxides of nitrogen (NOx).
 | Ease of Maintenance: The oil filter is located on top of the engine,
so it can be easily removed. An innovatively designed oil cartridge, similar in
concept to a printer cartridge, keeps oil self-contained during a filter change
and the engine free of dripping oil during routine maintenance. |

The current F-Series Super Duty 7.3-liter Power Stroke Diesel also has been
improved several times since its introduction in 1994. Beginning this January,
Ford began offering a new best-in-class torque Power Stroke 525, which delivers
525 foot-pounds of torque at just 1,600 rpm on automatic transmission-equipped
Super Duty models. The updated powertrain, which includes noise reductions, is
rated at 250 horsepower. The 7.3-liter Power Stroke Diesel also is offered as an
available engine in Ford E-Series cargo and passenger vans.
Production
The new 6.0-liter Power Stroke Diesel will be built later this year at
Navistar’s Indianapolis Engine Plant for high-volume F-Series Super Duty
trucks and at its new plant in Huntsville, Ala. for other applications. The
5-speed TorqShift automatic will be built at Ford’s Sharonville (Ohio)
Transmission Plant. The new powertrain will be available on mid-2003 model year
F-Series Super Duty and Excursion models. |
